A Community Commitment to Care

Winter weather can be unpredictable and, at times, dangerous. Ice, snow,
freezing temperatures, and power outages create serious safety risks, especially
for older adults and those with medical conditions. While many of us see winter
storms as an inconvenience, for seniors they can quickly become a health emergency.

Here at Eason Health Care Services, we believe prevention begins with something simple: a wellness check. Because sometimes a call or visit is all it takes to protect a life.

Why Seniors Need Extra Support in Winter; According to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention
, older adults are more vulnerable to cold related illness
and injury. Winter can increase the risk of: Hypothermia and frostbite Slips and falls
on ice Missed medications Isolation and limited mobility Loss of heat or
electricity Difficulty accessing food and supplies Even one day without proper
heat or support can be dangerous.

Our Message to Families and Communities We encourage families here at
Eason Health Care Services, as well as caregivers and neighbors, to check in before, during, and after every storm.

A quick phone call
A short visit
A simple “Do you need anything?”

These small acts can prevent major emergencies. No one should face winter alone.

What a Winter Wellness Check Looks Like When checking on a loved one, ask:

Is your heat working properly?
Do you have enough food and water for a few days?
Are your medications filled and within reach?
Is your phone charged?
Are walkways clear and safe?
Do you feel steady moving around your home?

Also look for warning signs such as confusion, fatigue, or feeling unusually cold.

Winter Safety Tips:

Stay Warm Safely Dress in layers
Use blankets Never use ovens or grills for heat
Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
Prevent Falls Salt or sand sidewalks
Wear non slip shoes
Keep floors clutter free
Avoid going out during icy conditions
Prepare for Power Outages
